On The Third Day

Sam and Mom are doing great. Sam is eating, sleeping, crying, and pooping, in about that order. My Mom took Noah and Wyatt to her house since Sam's 1st day and things have been pretty quiet. Maybe too quiet. We're looking forward to having everyone back together tomorrow. Both Noah and Wyatt are REALLY excited about Sam so it will be fun to watch them interact. This time last year we were accepting our first foster child Jayden who was also only 3 days old. Jayden was with us for about a month and we got Zack has three year old brother. The next 8 months was the hardest 8 months of our married lives. Learning to love another mother's children is immensely difficult. There were times we both looked at one another and asked, "why did we do this?" Dealing with the state, broken children, and broken parents was almost too much. We both recognize now, if we hadn't answered the call to allow Jayden and Zach into our lives we would have not gotten pregnant. Crysta and I had been hoping for a 3rd child for nearly two years. We had come to accept that it was probably not going to happen. It turns out having a baby in the house resets the hormones, for both mothers and fathers. That reset changed Crysta's Mom schedule and somewhere in the 3rd month of having the foster children Crysta got pregnant. In the fall of 2009 the birth Mom of Zack and Jayden began to turn her life around. In November she was doing well enough to get her kids back in her care. It ripped our hearts in two. And here we are only three months later overwhelmed with the Lord's blessing to give us Sam. You just never know the end of the story. Sometimes, we must continue in the dark, trusting it cannot last but for a season. Here's a wonderful video of Sam waking up this morning.
